Senior Coordinator of Housing & Residential Life

The Senior Coordinator of Housing & Residential Life is responsible for the overall administration and management of our student housing to support the educational, social, and cultural growth of the individual student and the overall residential community at George Mason University Korea (MK). The primary responsibilities include initiating, implementing, maintaining, and evaluating efforts in the MK student housing within the Incheon Global Campus (IGC) housing units that result in a student-centered community that supports the academic mission of Mason Korea.   

IGC Foundation owns and operates the student housing available to MK students. We work collaboratively to provide a safe, student-centered environment that is inclusive of the global community and dedicated to enriching our students' experiences. This position will work closely with MK Liaison at the IGC housing office.  

The position will be working within the team of University Life(UL) professional and student staff and directly report to the Associate Dean of UL.  The pay scale of the position is from 45,000,000 KRW to 48,000,000 KRW per year based on previous working experiences. 

40% HOUSING OPERATION  

  • Maintains a safe, secure, healthy, and positive living environment that enhances student development and learning.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with IGC Housing office regarding housing assignment, selection, break housing, check-in/out, and regular inspections.
  • Manage the daily operation and organization of the MK students in collaboration with the IGC Housing office.
  • Support IGC Housing office in room change requests.
  • Oversee the housing selection process within MK.
  • Participate in the evening, weekend, and holiday duty rotation with other MK staff; directly respond to on campus emergencies and student crises as needed.
  • Maintain student and housing records regarding assignment, retention, and attrition, make regular reports and projections on occupancy.
  • Provide budget oversight and management of the residential services programs.
  • Maintain the housing and residential life webpages within MK webpages.
  • Develop, maintain, and expand off-campus housing options for students by working with local service providers.

20% SUPERVISION 

  • Recruit, interview, evaluate, select, and train Resident Assistant (RA) staff in collaboration with IGC housing.
  • Supervise, evaluate and lead a team of RAs.
  • Provide on-going training to develop leadership skills and enhance competencies essential to their positions.
  • Lead regular staff meetings with the RAs.
  • Conduct bi-weekly one-on-one meetings with RAs.
  • Educate and hold staff accountable to all University policies, IGC policies and student staff expectations.
  • Plan and implement staff development to aid the RAs in creating positive team dynamics that foster collaboration and problem-solving skills.
  • Supervise and support RAs in their administrative assignments, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and completion.
  • Aid and advise student staff to promote and support diversity, inclusion, and social justice in our housing community.

20% STUDENT SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT 

  • Oversee and guide RAs in implementing residence life programs that support student learning within established programming framework.
  • Address incidents of inappropriate behavior in/around residence halls using an educational and development approach when referred by IGC Housing or RAs.
  • Assist with Student Care and Conduct to effectively resolve cases of student misconduct and violations of the Code of Conduct.
  • Assist students with academic, vocational, personal concerns; connect students with on-campus resources when appropriate.
  • Manage situations involving various psychological, emotional, medical or other safety related incidents in the residential community; collaborate with appropriate campus partners to properly support students and provide adequate resources.

20% UNIVERSITY SUPPORT 

  • Participate and contribute to broader UL programs, events and initiatives, including new student welcome activities, family orientation, Mason Day, etc.
  • Work on various campus committees and other special assignments as assigned by the administration or the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • High level of writing, speaking, and oral English and Korean communication skills.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of relevant experience in assisting students in connecting their curricular experiences with aligned learning outcomes and working with student groups, both formal and informal, and training/teaching abilities in a work setting.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  

  • Degree in higher education, counseling or related field preferred  
  • Experience working in student housing at a university setting (typically obtained in 1 year) 
     

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES  

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies  
  • Be familiar with services and programs that supports student success within student housing
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects independently and work in an environment with regular interruptions
  • Ability to work independently, analyze and made decisions related to program content  
  • Skill in program coordination, including communication, organization, facilitation, and independent decision-making  
  • Ability to maintain databases and update department websites
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities
  • Proficient with operating a computer and various supporting software packages (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite, Google Calendar, Zoom) 

WORK ENVIORNMENT 

  • Require flexible hours, including occasional evening and weekend hours, with prior notice  
  • Work may require some physical exertion (I.e., standing, lifting, moving, etc.)
  • Some work may be completed outside
